MARRAKECH'S DESERT NEW YEAR'S PARTY 3 DAYS

Have you ever imagined beginning the new year amidst the beautiful sand dunes of the Sahara Desert? For those seeking an alternative to New Year's Eve in Marrakech, we recommend a celebration in the Erg Chebbi dunes. This journey will take you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ksar Ait Benhaddou and the magnificent Dades valley.

You will also see the fabled Todra Gorges, the arid region surrounding Merzouga, and the beautiful palm groves of the Draa Valley. After a few days of visiting Morocco and its magnificent desert, you return to Marrakech about 7 p.m. and are dropped off at your hotel.

DECEMBER 30: MARRAKECH - AIT BENHADDOU - OUARZAZATE - DADES VALLEY

In front of your hotel in Marrakech, you will depart for Ouarzazate and Dades Gorges over the 2260-meter Tizi-N-Tichka mountain pass in the High Atlas Mountains. Along the route from Marrakech to Ouarzazate, you will pass through picturesque landscapes of varying hues and Berber communities. You will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou. The fortified settlement is a picturesque location that has used as the filming location for a number of well-known films, including Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, and even Gladiator. You will next proceed to Dades Valley via the rose valley and Skoura palm grove. You spend the first night of your journey and eat dinner in a traditional Moroccan hotel in the Dades gorges.

DECEMBER 31: DADES - TODRA GORGES - MERZOUGA DUNES (ERG CHEBBI)

After a traditional Moroccan breakfast, you check out of your hotel at 8 a.m. and take the road of a thousand kasbahs to see the Dades valley's colourful Berber towns. 45 kilometres ahead, you will reach Tineghir, a lovely palm grove and Jewish community. You proceed to the Todra Gorges, where you will have free time to hike within the 300-meter-tall canyons. Once you reach the Erg Chebbi dunes, you will embark on a 1 hr 30 min camel ride at sunset. Spend the night in a desert tent with dinner and a local music performance.

JANUARY 1: ERG CHEBBI - TAZARINE - AGDEZ - MARRAKECH

The sunrise above the sand dunes could be the highlight of your journey to the Moroccan desert if you rise at 5:30 a.m. approximately. You will return to Marrakech through Tazarine, Agdez, Ouarzazate, and the Draa Valley.
